2008 Head Shaving Event

This years C.U.F.F. (Cops United For Fighting) Cancer head shaving event will be held on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 6:30PM on the Church Street Marketplace (north end) located in downtown Burlington, VT.

Once again, the event will support Vermont's Camp Ta-Kum-Ta. Camp Ta-Kum-Ta is a nationally known Children's Oncology Camp located in Colchester, Vermont. This camp is dedicated to making the life of children between 7-17 years of age who have developed cancer more fun and positive. Many of these children lose their hair due to radiation treatment. Vermont's Camp Ta-Kum-Ta gives back to the children some of the childhood they have lost due to the illness.

Vermont's Camp Ta-Kum-Ta relies solely on contributions coming from individuals and other programs such as C.U.F.F. Cancer. Individuals of the Vermont Public Safety Community (police, fire, EMS, other public safety personnel and their families) are encouraged to participate in this program. With your support we have been able to make some substantial contributions to Vermont’s Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.

To participate, you need to find “pledges” or "sponsors" who will donate money to have your head shaved. You must raise at least $100.00 to participate in the Head Shaving Event. In the past participants have raised money to have long time beards and mustaches shaved. We have even had several female officers participate, two of whom have had their hair cut at the event and donated it to "Locks for Love" in Florida.

What is important is that we raise funds for these children who suffer from cancer and we can have fun doing it.

The head shaving will be done by professional barbers and/or cosmetologists and assisted by kids from Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.
